The Music Publishers Association (MPA) is delighted to announce that applications are now open for the Richard Toeman Scholarship (RTS) 2022.

Since 2006, RTS has been a vital part of the MPA’s educational and outreach initiatives and fits alongside a current roster of training and professional development events including the MPA’s The Publishing Effect: A 101 of Music Publishing course, Specialist Seminars, Masterclass Series, the MPA Futures Group and NXT-Gen membership tier.

The Scholarship is awarded to two outstanding candidates a year. One scholarship is awarded to a candidate who has been working within music publishing for five years or less and one final year student or recent graduate interested in working in music publishing.

The Scholarship winners will receive:

  • Free or discounted entry to MPA training and professional development courses
  • Invitations to MPA socials and quizzes, including the MPA Christmas Lunch
  • £500 towards further training and professional development
  • Business coaching provided by an independent consultant
  • Plus, many more career boosting benefits.

The final year student or recent graduate scholarship winner will also receive support from the MPA in securing a relevant work placement during the scholarship.

Full details are available on the MPA website along with the application form, nomination and selection process, with entries closing on 28th October 2022. The two successful applicants will be announced on 5th December 2022.

Paul Clements, CEO, MPA Group says: “The MPA is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of music publishers and championing diversity at all career levels within our sector. Now in its 14th year, the Richard Toeman Scholarship continues to support the development of newcomers to the industry through training, networking, mentorship and more. Whether working at major international publishing companies or independent publishers, past scholars have gone on to lead successful and notable careers.’’

Clare Everson, Music Supervisor, Twenty Below Music (RTS 2019 recipient) says:
“I was honoured to receive the Richard Toeman Scholarship and have enjoyed the connections I have made with others in the publishing industry through both social and educational MPA events. They have been hugely beneficial and I continue to work with many of these colleagues today.

Conversations following my scholarship were the catalyst for us co-founding the MPA NXT-Gen Scholars, which aims to increase representation in the music publishing sector.

Since the scholarship I have developed my career in Sync and Supervision, firstly at Manners McDade Music Publishing, and more recently working as a Music Supervisor at Twenty Below Music where I have worked on advertising campaigns with brands such as Nike, Adidas, Bumble, Budweiser, as well as TV and Film projects. Music publishing expertise continues to be essential in my collaboration with composers and publishers on such projects.

Moreover, I now sit on the Board for the Guild of Music Supervisors and regularly speak on MPA panels where I love to meet others in our sector.”
