The MPA is committed to providing a safe and inclusive working environment for all employees throughout all stages of their working lives.

Our M3 employee network is an additional benefit to our members and follows on from the successful launch of our M3 Guidance for Managers (please contact Helen Choudhury for a copy of the guidance). We want to ensure that no matter what an employee is going through or what external health pressures they might face, that we, the Music Publishing sector, provide the support they need at work. By providing an open, inclusive working environment and making reasonable adjustments for staff, we know that we will foster a more productive and successful workforce, retaining experience and talent at every level.

To demonstrate our commitment, we are delighted to be a signatory of the Wellbeing for Women’s Menopause Workplace Pledge. This pledge is our commitment to ensuring that we are ready and prepared to support our women employees when they start going through the change (menopause).

We want to ensure that our colleagues are treated with dignity and respect and are given the support they need to thrive. We want to listen to and learn from the needs, concerns and experiences of our colleagues and our members and take informed action to be more inclusive and supportive. Please also note that participating in the network does not ‘out’ someone as going through the menopause or having any related health matters.

What is it about and who can join?
The M3 employee network is championed by Helen Choudhury (Head of Diversity, Equality and Inclusion) and will serve colleagues impacted by menopause, menstruation, miscarriage and related health matters, whether personally, through a family member or friend, or as an ally.
The Network is open to all MPA Member employees, including those of us working at the MPA.

We recognise that menopause, menstruation and miscarriage are majority experienced by women and girls, but are also experienced by (but not limited to) people who identify as the following:

  • Women
  • Trans men
  • Intersex people
  • Non-binary
  • Gender fluid

Please note that any personal information discussed during the meetings is confidential and is not minuted.

Some of the key issues to be covered by the Network will include:

  • Providing a safe and confidential place for members to raise issues and concerns about Menopause, Menstruation, Miscarriage and related health matters.
  • Providing a supportive, open environment to, and opportunity to, network/socialise with other colleagues.
  • Raising awareness, sharing knowledge and contributing to the understanding of Menopause, Menstruation, Miscarriage and related health matters within the Music Publishing sector.
  • Discussing Menopause, Menstruation, Miscarriage and related health matters and intersectionality: Looking at the impact it can have on people belonging to different protected characteristics.
  • Challenging negative attitudes and behaviours about Menstruation, Miscarriage and related health matters and helping to reduce stigma within the workplace.
  • Promoting awareness and education through training programmes.
  • Access to expert speakers, workshops, lunch and learn presentations, tips, toolkits, activities and events.

How is the Network hosted?
The Network is hosted on Microsoft Teams, where members can have conversations on Channels, share files and resources and host meetings online. The Diversity, Equality and Inclusion (DEI) Team are on hand to help, and to take forward any issues raised by the Network.

The Microsoft Teams site is a private group and though there is some degree of visibility when you join (other members can see who you are), we request that members maintain strict confidentiality about its membership and contents.

This Network is supported by the MPA DEI team, but it is not our Network: it is yours. We hope that the Network will be led by you for you. We are currently gathering ideas on how members want to run the Network and what you want to get out of it. Colleagues will have the opportunity to contribute in a variety of ways: for example, through Team Meetings online, Channel discussions via Teams as well as by email or phone.
