Apr 30 2024 News British Library Presents: ‘Beyond the Bassline: 500 years of Black British Music’ 0 shares In partnership with the University of Westminster Centre for Research and Education in Arts and Media and the British Library, Beyond the Bassline explores Black British music and its origins, whether in basements, clubs or carnivals. It showcases the spirit of the community, culture, resistance and joy whilst celebrating the new music inspired from the trailblazers. The exhibition will run from 26 April until 26 August 2024. This exhibition is the first of its kind, in the world, and is accompanied by an amazing line-up of events including performances, artwork and talks. It will feature 200 displays, including sit-down talks with Eddie Grant, a panel of voices in the music industry, plus performances by Soul II Soul and George The Poet. The conclusion of the exhibition is Touching Bass, a South London-based musical movement and curatorial platform, presenting a new multi-screen film installation. It represents a time to broaden our understanding of Black British music. Tickets and further information is available here. The first Wednesday of each month will be “pay what you can” days. There will be live-streamed events with online access, which will be available for 48 hours after the event.
