The Music Publishers Association is pleased to announce that Jackie Alway, Chair of the MPA for the past 5 years, has been awarded an OBE for services to the Music Industry in the Queen’s Birthday Honours.

Jackie, a qualified solicitor, with over 25 years of experience as a music publisher, serves in a key role of Executive VP International Legal & Industry Affairs at Universal Music Publishing Group. Alway is also recognised for her work with the MPA Group, which represents UK music publishers. Jackie has been a driving force in transforming the MPA Group into a thriving, publisher-led organisation that has set the benchmark for trade organisations and collecting societies in the UK and internationally.

She spearheads the MPA’s lobbying efforts and plays a pivotal role in music industry campaigns defending copyright for creators and rights owners, creating streamlined models for digital licensing and securing access to music in education alongside helping support new songwriters and artists. She has reformed the licensing landscape for the digital age with her work for the Mechanical-Copyright Protection Society, focusing on future proofing the music publishing business.

Billboard Magazine has continued to support and recognise Jackie’s influence, including her in their International Power Players list alongside other top executives for the past 2 years.

Jackie lends her vast expertise to numerous key working groups and Boards across the music industry including, PRS for Music, MCPS, MCPS Ireland, IMPA, UK Music and the Council of the MPA Ireland.

Jackie’s contribution to the broader music industry is immense, and this honourable title is well-deserved.

Paul Clements, MPA Group CEO, says: “On behalf of the MPA Group, including our music and print publishers, and the composers that we represent, I am absolutely delighted that Jackie’s enormous contribution to our community has been recognised in this way.

Jackie has worked tirelessly for the MPA and has made an incredible contribution both to our organisation and the wider business, championing the cause and tackling all the key issues on behalf of music publishers and songwriters.”

He continued: “We are very grateful for the energy, passion, care and support that Jackie has provided to the MPA in Chairing our business over the last 5 years. We look forward to her contributing to our Members’ cause for many years to come.”
