MPA Welcomes New Prime Minister and Cabinet
The MPA extends our warmest congratulations to the new Prime Minister, Andy Burnham, alongside Lisa Nandy who has been reappointed Culture Secretary.
As a former Culture Secretary and music fan, we look forward to working with the new Prime Minister and his Cabinet to ensure that the UK’s music industry continues to lead the world creatively, culturally and economically. We also welcome the continuity provided by Lisa Nandy’s reappointment as Culture Secretary and look forward to continuing our engagement with her on the issues that matter most to music publishers and the songwriters, composers and lyricists that they represent.
It is a pivotal time for our industry, as we face both significant challenges and exciting opportunities. From the rapid development of generative AI to the changes in the curriculum for music education and post-Brexit trade deals, the sector is undergoing profound change.
As the sector evolves, it is essential that the new Prime Minister and Culture Secretary remain committed to protecting the UK’s world-leading copyright framework, which underpins investment in creativity, safeguards intellectual property and ensures that rights holders are fairly compensated. The Music Plan, launched last week, demonstrates what can be achieved when Government and industry commit to working together.
We look forward to building on that collaboration to support a thriving music ecosystem that benefits music creators, businesses, and music fans alike.
