Ready to take the next step in music publishing? The MPA Intermediate Course is designed for those who already understand the fundamentals and want to deepen their knowledge across key areas of the business. 

Whether you have completed the MPA Publishing Effect – A 101 of Music Publishing course or have some experience working in publishing or the wider music industry, this course offers a practical next stage to build on your understanding of how the publishing business operates. 

Join us across five evening sessions featuring expert-led talks and discussions exploring the commercial, legal and creative aspects of modern music publishing.

 Course Programme 

Session 1 – The Publisher–Writer Relationship
April 16

An exploration of the relationship between publishers and songwriters. This session will cover writer development, A&R support, catalogue management, and how publishers build and maintain long-term creative partnerships with writers. 

Session 2 – The Art of the Deal
April 23

A closer look at publishing agreements and deal structures. Topics will include key contractual terms, advances, options, and current trends in music publishing deals.

Session 3 – Show Me the Money
April 30

An overview of the key revenue streams in music publishing. This session will look at royalty flows, creative income opportunities, and how publishers maximise value from their catalogues.

Session 4 – Diving Deep into Digital
May 7

A discussion on how publishing rights are licensed in the digital environment. Topics will include licensing models, digital services, collective licensing hubs, and considerations when licensing rights are managed globally. 

Session 5 – The Evolution of Music Publishing and Sustaining Value for the Future
May 14

A look at the evolving publishing landscape, including partnerships with funds and investors, new business models, and how publishers collaborate across the wider music ecosystem.  

Each session will feature experienced speakers from across the publishing ecosystem, offering practical insight and the opportunity to ask questions and share perspectives with peers. 

Attendees who complete all five sessions will receive an MPA Certificate of Completion. 

Networking drinks will follow the final session.
