WINTER ECONOMY PLAN OUTLINES JOB SUPPORT SCHEME AND EXTENSION TO SELF-EMPLOYMENT INCOME SUPPORT SCHEME (SEISS)

Following the recent announcement from Chancellor Rishi Sunak concerning the Winter Economy Plan on Thursday 24th September, we recognise that urgent help is still necessary for our sector.

The changes outlined in the plan include the Job Support Scheme, opening from Sunday 1st November and running for six months, to help protect viable jobs in businesses facing lower demand due to Covid-19 (even if they have not previously used the furlough scheme). The Government will pay a third of hours not worked (up to a cap), with the employer also contributing a third.

The Self-Employment Income Support Scheme (SEISS) has also been extended, providing a taxable grant covering 20% of average monthly trading profits paid out in instalments covering three months.

Although the continuation of support measures is welcomed, we will continue to lobby Government with One Voice Campaign for a ticket matching scheme, 1-4-1. Organisations such as Musicians’ Union have also expressed concern that the new Government support is not sufficient for many working in our industry.
