OUP’s Music Department, within the Academic Division, is one of the world’s leading publishers of printed classical and educational music. Our diverse list is of the highest quality and includes contemporary works, easy instrumental collections, and an extensive choral catalogue. OUP is also exclusive distributor for the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music. 


This interesting, varied and broad role gives the post holder the unique opportunity to see all aspects of the department, liaising with multi people at different levels.

The purpose of the role is to provide administrative support for all new printed music titles, supporting editors and liaising with departmental colleagues in production, marketing, sales, and the hire library. This is essential to ensure that new titles are publishing efficiently, accurately and on time.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Acting as key user, provide administrative support with all company and departmental databases
  • Liaising with Editors, coordinate the new title administration process
  • Organising departmental Publishing Meetings, ensuring all papers are prepared and circulated in advance, and accurate minutes are taken and distributed
  • Organising music papers for University Delegates’ meetings and provide secretarial support on routine correspondence and general enquiries
  • Running sales reports and analyse data
  • Maintain sales budget spreadsheets
  • Undertaking desk-based market research.


You will be a confident communicator with a can do attitude, you will also have the following:

  • Good secretarial skills, administrative experience, and organisational ability
  • High standard of literacy, with the ability to write clearly
  • Good accuracy and attention to detail
  • Excellent computer literacy with familiarity with databases
  • Experience of using Excel at an intermediate level
  • The confidence to deal with a range of people, internally and externally
  • An interest in and basic knowledge of classical music, including choral
  • Experience of using InDesign is desirable.


We care about work/life balance here at OUP; with this in mind we offer 25 days’ holiday (plus bank holidays), and a 35-hour working week, along with the flexibility to start and finish late or early as required. Working from home once a week will also be possible if required in these roles.

Our pension contribution is up to 11%.
