Diversity and Inclusion Officer

London, Part-Time (3 days per week), 2 years Fixed Term Contract

An exciting and rare opportunity to work and make a real difference within the UK Music Industry, we are looking for an experienced Diversity & Inclusion Officer to support us in delivering our DEI agenda, both internally within the organisation and externally across the wider music publishing industry. This role is initially for a 2 year fixed term contract, to be reviewed at 18 months.

About the MPA 

The Music Publishers Association works on behalf of its wide-ranging membership to protect and enhance the rights of the music publishers and creators at the heart of British music’s extraordinary cultural and economic success story. We strive to be the catalyst for positive change in the music publishing community, by empowering our members and by advocating on behalf of our industry with passion, integrity, respect for others and with the creator at the heart of everything we do.

As well as safeguarding and championing the interests of its members, the MPA also owns and operates subsidiary businesses (together known as The MPA Group), including the Mechanical Copyright Protection Society (MCPS) which is the UK collection society that licenses mechanical (or reproduction) copyrights on behalf of over 30,000 music publisher, songwriter, and composer members; and Printed Music Licensing Ltd (PMLL) which represents the rights of music publishers, issuing licences on their behalf to allow for the photocopying and arranging of sheet music as part of education and beyond.

About the Role

This newly created role will report into the Head of Diversity, Equality and Inclusion (DEI) and be responsible for setting up, co-ordinating and supporting employee networks, as well as helping to arrange and run activities and events across the Inclusion Calendar.

Some of the key responsibilities include:

• Assist with the set up and ongoing running of employee network groups, including scheduling and minuting meetings.
• Help to arrange, co-ordinate, communicate and champion all DEI events, including Pride, Black History Month, and International Women’s Day.
• Work with the Head of DEI and Marketing & Communications Manager to raise awareness of DEI, writing blogs, news stories, and keeping the website up to date.
• Work with an Analyst to develop and maintain a DEI dashboard, and generate regular reports.
• Support the Head of DEI in maintaining external accreditation.
• Continuously look for new DEI-related tools and initiatives for the benefit of the MPA and its’ members
• Build strong internal relationships that allow for a deeper understanding of DEI needs, and facilitate open and honest conversations to promote communication and understanding.
• Provide administrative support to the Head of DEI as required.

About you 

Whilst previous experience within the Music Industry would be valued, we are keen to attract applicants from any sector and background. We’d like you to be able to demonstrate the following skills, experience and qualities:

• At least 2 years’ experience of working within Diversity, Equality and Inclusion, and general administration.
• Experience of coordinating and running employee groups, and scheduling and hosting online events.
• Experience of managing a DEI comms calendar, ensuring stakeholders are aware of upcoming events.
• Good interpersonal, communication, organisational, and administrative skills, including time management, attention to detail; and interacting with employees across multiple levels.
• 1+ year in Community Relations, Human Resources and/or Event Planning is desirable.
