Announced at the MPA AGM on Wednesday 3rd July, the MPA is pleased to reveal the 2019 winners of the Richard Toeman Scholarship are Manners McDade’s Clare Everson for the professional award and Marie Robinson for the student award.

Now in its 12th year the RTS is designed to support the progress of outstanding individuals within the music publishing business, to encourage potential, or new, recruits to the industry to develop their skills and experience through study and to encourage each year’s recipient to achieve an enhanced preparedness for a successful career in the music publishing industry.

The scholarship takes the form of packages of support designed to meet the needs of either existing music publishing employees who are new to the business, or final year student or recent graduate. Two winners are chosen each year.

Clare has been at Manners McDade for over a year. Clare looks after creative sync and licensing for the company’s specialist contemporary and electronic publishing roster. Her role encompasses worldwide creative pitching of composers, artists and repertoire across all media platforms. Clare also worked at Warner Classic and she is the UK Editorial Manager of She said.so, a platform that supports a diverse pool of female-identifying music professionals who are decision makers in their fields, as well as promising young talent.

She has a BA in Music from Durham University and was awarded the Baxter Award for academic achievement in her final year. On top of all these achievements she manages artist and pianist; Poppy Ackroyd, who is signed to One Little Indian Records. Clare is particularly passionate about mentoring others coming into the industry and supports opportunities for young music industry professionals.

Marie has recently finished her final year at the University of Hertfordshire, where she studied Music Business. During her time at university, Marie has honed her music industry knowledge and business skills. She has gained some incredible hands-on experience working with organisations such as MMF, Help Musicians UK and the O2 Arena. With her incredible drive and insight into the music industry, it’s great to be able to recognize such initiative

A huge congratulations to both Clare and Marie, we hope this award will provide the necessary resources and support that they will need in this exciting next chapter of their career.

Applications for the 2020 Richard Toeman Scholarship will open early next year.
