MPA Launch M³ (Menopause, Menstruation & Miscarriage) Guidance for Managers

Available to all MPA members

As part of World Menopause Day and World Menopause Awareness Month, the Music Publishers Association (MPA) has announced the launch of their ‘M³ (Menopause, Menstruation & Miscarriage) Guidance for Managers.’ This resource is the first of its kind within the music publishing sector and is available to all MPA member organisations.

The M³ document outlines advice for managers to support their employees going through either the three stages of menopause (menopause, perimenopause and post menopause), period related health issues or pregnancy loss and promotes an inclusive workplace environment. Over 900,000 women in the UK have recently left the workforce due to lack of support from their organisations (Wellbeing of Women, 2022). This guidance seeks to challenge stigma associated with these health matters and encourages candid and respectful conversations.

World Menopause Day and World Menopause Awareness Month are dedicated to raising awareness of the menopause, perimenopause and post menopause. Links, resources and information are available on the MPA website here.

The MPA is also a proud signatory of the Menopause Workplace Pledge, a commitment to ensuring support is available for those going through menopause.

Paul Clements, CEO, MPA Group said: “As the CEO of the MPA, I want to empower our employees and guide our membership in providing a safe and inclusive working environment for all. Recent research has shown that many women are leaving the workforce, in general, due to a lack of support from their employers, particularly around such challenges they face in relation to menopause, by way of one example.

I am therefore pleased to introduce ‘The M³ Guidance for Managers’ which is the latest asset in our DEI related work and will equip our members in providing better support for their impacted employees.”

Helen Choudhury, Head of Diversity, Equality & Inclusion and Champion of Menopause, MPA Group said: “I am delighted to produce the ‘M³ Guidance’ for the MPA and our membership. As Champion of Menopause, my role is to ensure that the voices of those experiencing perimenopause, menopause and post menopause, including period related health Issues and pregnancy loss are heard. We hope to encourage our colleagues to ask for what they need at work, without any judgement and provide managers with the appropriate tools to provide support where requested.”

The guidance document will be available on request to members in November.
